French forces deployed in Mali have “neutralized” Adnan Abou Walid al Sahraoui, the top leader of the Daesh terrorist group in Africa’s Sahel region.
The announcement was made early Thursday by French President Emmanuel Macron, who said France’s fight against terrorism would continue with its African, European and American partners.
“Adnan Abou Walid al Sahraoui, leader of the Islamic State terrorist group in the Great Sahara, has been neutralized by French forces. This is another major success in our fight against terrorist groups in the Sahel,” Macron wrote on Twitter.
The Sahel branch of the terrorist group, known as Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS), is held responsible for attacks in border regions near Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso
